![]() Mandrake's Folly |
"Mandrake's Folly" was commissioned to illustrate a story in the anthology Absolute Visions, a spaceship mystery by Suzanne Palmer. It's a bit of an homage (while being nothing like as good, alas) to the work of Lynd Ward, who did marvelous psychological woodcut illustrations in the 1930s. |
![]() Airship |
This is a pencil rendering of a fantasy airship which was created for a roleplaying game. Thanks to Corey Liss, M. Garfinkle, Richard Garfinkle, and Robert Ellis for permission to show this drawing. |
![]() Bus Stop |
With this drawing I was playing with the idea of pulp fiction, of the mysterious fixations of the early pulp era, and the menacing figures. It was also a good opportunity to illuminate stark lighting effects. I also enjoy drawing historical scenes and garments, I must admit. |
![]() Selkie |
Selkies were seal-women in Icelandic, Irish and Scottish folklore. They took the form of women, but could return to the sea in their sealskins. I enjoyed the idea of a Puritan New Englander encountering such a thing on the rocky coast of northern Massachusetts. |
![]() Selkie Wife |
This was a different approach I took to the selkie myth. Sometimes selkies would marry humans, but often they had to return to the sea. |
