The face of Aktaeon, a detail of Edgewise, an Artemis outfit

This is a detail of the painting on the front of a set of clothing inspired by Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt. The clothing can be seen on the Clothing and Textiles gallery page.

Artemis was called Diana by the Romans, and Aktaeon was called Actaeon.

This is the face of Aktaeon, best and most foolish of hunters in Greek mythology. Aktaeon left his hunting companions and trespassed on Artemis' sacred mountain. He came upon Artemis bathing with her nymphs. As punishment for his presumptuousness (and some say as transfiguration from seeing the unadorned godhead), she transformed him into a deer and his own dogs felled and devoured him.
